Artful Color: Design and Critique

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!

Artful Color Design and Critique

Well, that was a strong start! Let’s revise that sentiment and say, “The Good, the Better, and the Best!” because as we learn about good designing, we get better. We usually start at the okay or good and ease our way through better into best with experience and sound education.

Don’t let a perceived inability to draw stop you—I can’t draw worth spit. There are other ways to get where you want to go. If you are not comfortable drawing, try cutting out basic shapes to create what you want. Move these templates around on your backing to make a pleasing design. We don’t need a carefully executed pattern with every line in place for rug hooking—we only need a basic shape to follow. Your pattern is only a guide.
