Sheri Bennett's definite opinions about what colors she picks for her home decor made Caswell Fruit a perfect choice for her next rug hooking project. "I truly love the color red and this rug gave me plenty of places to use it," says Sheri. "I worked closely with my teacher, Ramona Maddox, on the color palette. She doesn't try to steer me in directions I don't ever want to go."

Caswell Fruit is an adaptation of an antique rug based upon an original rug made in the early 1830s presently on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. "The section my rug was copied from was made to be removed int he winter to protect it from sparks from the fireplace," Sheri explains. "The original rug measures 159" x 147"." Sheri was attracted to the smaller section because of her love for antiques. She also felt that the large motifs would translate well in the larger cuts she likes to use and, as a quilter, she is often drawn to patterns that contain baskets or fruit.
