"I was on a committee to teach pictorial rugs at a teachers’ workshop. The idea was that we would all hook the same pattern, Culley’s Cottage, and adapt it to different seasons. I choose winter. I changed the season. I added the lake and my son, Patrick shovelling snow. The house is based on a house on St. George St. W. in Fergus, ON. I think shovelling snow is one of the more mundane chores of winter; I was trying not to be Christmasy, maudlin, and sentimental. Patrick was age 11, so that eliminated some of the cuteness."
