Facescape in Three Parts

Dimensions: 25" x 34"
Materials: #3-cut wool on linen
Designed and hooked by Carol Koerner, Bethesda, Maryland, 2013.
Featured in: Celebration XXIV

"I thought an extreme close up of a face would be an interesting hooking, treating it as one would a rolling landscape with details of bushes, ponds and crevices. I chose to divide it into three unequal parts and to use blue wool only because it would look cool hanging on my wall. The large expanses between the eyes, nose and mouth were challenging, but as in a rolling lawn, different shades were hooked from dark to light creating hilly contours of cheeks, chin, etc. I love the large scale of Facescape. It could be fun to go even bigger."
