Bernice Howell had one goal in mind when hooking this rug: Recreate the original photo as closely as possible with only what she had on hand in her stash. And she almost did it.

"As the old saying goes, you can have a hundred greens but never the right one. My big bag of cut green strips came in very handy with all the foliage int he background," she says. "But I did have to dye the bright green in the background fields."

Gold Hill, UK, ended up being an excellent example of why Bernice likes to hook rugs. "I get to work with a full palette of colors, feel the softness and textures of the fabric, and experience the 'Wow!' effect that they create. I can rework an element until it pleases me. Sometimes the challenge can be frustrating, but there is a great feeling of satisfaction when you reach your goal."
