First Rug on the Last Page: Leaves

First Rug on the Last Page Leaves

In the summer of 2017, my kids and I were invited to visit my friend at her parents‘ farm in Washington State. When I walked in the front door, I was in awe of the beautiful rugs that were hanging on the wall of their living room.

As a fan of handcrafted items (and of making them), I asked her mom if she had made the rugs, and sure enough she said yes. I then asked her how they were made and was happy when she demonstrated on a project she was currently working on. She then had me try hooking a few loops, and the next thing I knew was that I was hooked!

I came home from that trip fixated on researching everything I could find about rug hooking. I scoured the internet for information and checked out many books from the library on rug hooking. I then ordered some monk’s cloth, a hook, and wool yarn. The first rug I designed and hooked with wool yarn was titled Leaves. It was inspired by the beautiful fall leaves in Seattle. It proudly covers the floor in my sons’ room.
