Sheep on the Moor/Victoria Tuck
Sheep on the Moor, 28" x 18 1⁄2", 100% wool yarn on monk’s cloth. Designed by Isa Beniston, punched by Victoria Tuck, San Diego, California, 2018.
After those first few punches, I was hooked. I’ve been a fiber enthusiast since I was a child and found the craft at an International Punch Needle Day party hosted by Christie Beniston’s Punch!. I teamed up with my boyfriend and we started punching
a small pillow together at the party. I’d never heard of rug hooking before the party.
There were a few other people picking out their first projects at the party, and not being a gifted drawer myself, I asked Christie’s daughter, Isa, if she would design a rug for me to punch. Sheep are some of my favorite animals, having spent a handful of years living in England surrounded by them. I’m also an avid knitter and thought sheep would be a fitting subject for a wool rug. The yarn stocked at Punch! comes in a wide spectrum of colors and, with the help of Isa and Christie, I decided on a color palette and started punching that evening.
