Miriam has a love of color. She’s a knitter, spinner, and weaver with knowledge of dyeing, so rug hooking was a natural addition to her world of texture and colour. However she didn’t get much encouragement from her family when she wrote to relatives in England to ask about rug hooking. They were horrified she was even considering making “one of those old ugly rugs,” a sentiment held by most Australians who can remember rugs made out of necessity during the Depression era.
