What can a rug hooker do to make a rug really stand out? Good composition, evenly hooked loops, smart color choices, and a compelling design all contribute to a fine piece. Yet, there are a few other elements that can make a rug sharper and more cohesive, and some are quite simple to achieve.
We hook in lines: straight, curved, wavy, or zigzagged. Our rugs are composed of lines that join and lines that stand side by side. What we do with those lines is what makes our work unique. If we manipulate the direction and placement of our strips of wool, whether they are #3 or #8, we add a certain flair and dimension to our rug.
