When one of the students in my art class wanted a geisha girl with some Oriental flowers, I designed a Japanese lacquered piece for her with Mount Fuji in the background. I liked it so well that I decided to design a pattern for myself. I tried to incorporate as much movement as I could into the water, the gown, and the sky.
Water
I have always said the background should be background, but in this design, the background became the focal point. A lot of color and values can be hooked into a pictorial that has great movement in the water.
