Introducing kids to the art of rug hooking

Over the years, I have spent a lot of time teaching kids how to hook rugs. I suppose that is partly because I was first exposed to rug hooking at about 11 or 12 years of age and know firsthand just how much of an impact a great artistic moment can make. Although I did not start hooking rugs until many years later, it was that early exposure to fiber arts that planted the initial seed in my head and artistic heart. That chance encounter was my only lesson to get me through my first rug.

Consequently, I am strongly committed to doing anything I can to teach kids how to hook rugs and I want to encourage  you to do it too. The information in this article stems from a video that I  shot of one of my kids’ classes, so that other people can use the lessons I have learned when they’re ready to teach children . . .
