Do you find Halloween a time filled with colorful and often outrageous images that get your creative juices flowing? Halloween seems to be a popular theme with artists of all mediums, and rug hooking is no exception. After all, artists have creative imaginations, and now is the time to let them fly!
This year I decided to hook a piece inspired by the Mexican holiday, La Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), which starts at the stroke of midnight when Halloween ends and continues for two days. Iconic images of this holiday are skeletons with colorfully decorated faces shown participating in the activities that they once enjoyed in this life. This is not a macabre or gruesome holiday, but one full of fun. It’s a time for families to spiritually connect with their ancestors.
