Sometimes my students ask me where I get my ideas and how I think to try new things. I wish I had a good answer. The best response I can give is that you need to observe and remember. Why? Because inspiration needs a cocktail of half-notions and splintered thoughts, simmered with time and patience, until something unexpected fuses them into an idea: that ah-ha! moment. It always makes more sense afterwards, and even seems logical—but it isn’t.
