The Journey

Traveling Beyond Wool

By: Patty Wallace
The Journey

The Journey, 33" x 59", various cuts of different fibers on monk's cloth. Designed and hooked by Patty Wallace, Warsaw, Missouri, 2015.

The Journey began in June 2014 when I took a class offered by Heather Ritchie and sponsored by Vickie Hardcastle (Hardcastle Folk Art). I went to the class with no expectations. I knew it would be a good time for learning when I was there. Heather opened my eyes to a whole new world of rug hooking. Now I realize we can hook with any kind of fiber that will pull through our foundation.

Inspiration for the rug was a picture I had in my shop. I love sheep, and I wanted to hook a project with a shepherdess and sheep. Previously I had mostly hooked with wool—and most of it new. But I incorporated all kinds of recycled material into this piece.
