Doodle Rugs
Dear Beginning Rug Hooker
Doodle, 24" x 15", #8-cut wool on hessian burlap. Designed and hooked by Cilla Cameron, Oxton, Nottinghamshire, UK, 2012.
How often have you doodled with a pen or pencil on a piece of paper as you talked on the phone or sipped your morning coffee? Save those doodles: you might find an interesting rug design—ready-made.
Check out your calendar or your desk blotter or that notebook by the telephone—take a look at your doodles. Will that doodle make a good center design for a modern rug? Pick a doodle and add its mirror image, or divide your rug backing into several squares and put your doodle in each square. Perhaps your doodle or part of your doodle will make a great border. There are so many ways to use those small little doodles.
