Transformation/Sandra Dearing

By: Story as told to RHM by Sandra Dearing

Transformation, 29" x 22", #3-cut wool on burlap. Designed and hooked by Sandra Dearing, Springdale, Arkansas, 2018.

Sandra Dearing has always wanted to learn to hook rugs. on a visit to the Ozark Folkways Museum in Winslow, Arkansas, she saw a display of a rug in progress. The director of the museum gave her the name of a teacher in the area, Wilma Hill, and she immediately arranged to take lessons from Wilma.

It wasn't long before she decided to start designing her own patterns. Intrigued by the creativity and freedom of expression found in rug hooking, she knew that this was a craft and an art that she needed to explore. So she began planning and drawing.
