These figures represent a custom in outport Newfoundland around the Christmas period. People dressed up, hiding their face, travelling house to house, often playing a few tunes and entertaining the neighbours, receiving in turn a drink/or food. Accordion and fiddle are Christmas tree decorations, and the bodhran is made from chemise over a wooden ring. The custom is currently going through a revival.
