A few years back, Rémi Lévesque of New Brunswick and a member of the Preservation Barachois Church Committee launched the 200 Hooked Cushions Project for the historic church’s 200th anniversary. New Jersey rug hooker Gail Dufresne and a busload of U.S. hookers stopped to view the cushions, and a new undertaking was born: the USA50. For this collection, a cushion would be hooked representing a bird, a flower, memorabilia, something particular to each of the fifty states.
