Color Entomology

A natural history series for the wall and the lapel

By: Hayley Perry
Color Entomology

I wanted to work on a series of hooked rugs, and I found inspiration in my little honeybee. I call my new project Color Entomology, because as much as it is a collection of insects, it is also a collection of color combinations. I was directly inspired by the exaggerated colors and shapes of vintage insect jewelry, where the subject is abstracted using metals and jewels to construct an eye-catching piece of art rather than attempting to be true representation of insects you would see outdoors.
