Jewel Tulip
Springtime Colors Chase Away the Winter Blues
Jewel Tulip, 18" x 18", #6-cut wool on linen. Designed by Joan Moshimer and hooked by Lisanne Miller, Wells, Maine, 2019.
This colorful jewel is a Joan Moshimer pattern. What a great project to work on as spring comes our way. At this size, it is perfect for a pillow or as a wedding, graduation, or baby gift.
This version of Jewel Tulip resembles a stained-glass window. Have you ever tried hooking a stained-glass piece? Use bright clear colors and dark values for the leading and you will be certain to succeed.
In order to achieve that stained-glass look, pick a soft dark brown or antique black for the leading. Outline all the motifs including the entire tulip, and the inside and outside frame. Use the same wool for the entire border.
The dark wool I used is a “reversible” black. This wool gives me a line that is not harsh but is definitely dark. The reversible wool works well with the other colors and enhances the stained-glass effect.
