Time to Celebrate! RHM's 30th Anniversary
Here Comes Santa!, 24" x 40", #6-cut wool on linen. Backed with heavyweight wool. Designed by Joan Moshimer and hooked by Lisanne Miller, Wells, Maine, 2018.
Here Comes Santa! by Joan Moshimer is one of Joan’s most iconic pieces. Joan’s Santa has appeared in publications for decades and is familiar to many rug hookers, so to hook it “my way” was a daunting task.
Santa Claus means something different to each and every one of us. Is his suit red? Burgundy? Green? Blue? Are his boots shiny or are they sooty from going up and down chimneys? Is his hair white as snow or gray? To this day, as an adult, I still wait for the end of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to see what Santa is dressed in!
My favorite Santa has a deep-red-to-burgundy velvet suit. His boots are worn, his gloves are green, and he has
a definite twinkle in his eye. Armed with my vision of Santa, I started hooking.
I hooked this Santa in a #6 cut, combining dyed and textured wool, and added yarns such as mohair and burly spun yarn.
I hooked Santa from the boots up! They are a combination of reversible black and dyed antique black with a wonderful old textured gold for the buckle. His boots are not shiny new, as this guy has been going up and down chimneys for decades, and these are his favorite boots!
