Rugs by the Sea
Rugs by the Sea is held in Cape May, NJ at the historic Chalfonte Hotel. We provide instruction in the art of traditional rug hooking. All styles are taught and small class size ensures that each participant receives adequate attention and workspace. The teachers are very experienced and come with a love and enthusiasm for rug hooking. We offer two weeks of instruction with two different teaching staffs. The teachers for the first week, September 10-15, are Ingrid Hieronimus, Michele Micarelli, Kris Miller and Emily Silevinac. The teachers for the second week, September 17-22, are Cammie Bruce, Lucille Festa, Chizuko Hayami and Diane Stoffel. More information is available on our blog, rugsbythesea.wordpress.com.
Cape May, a seaside resort since the 1800s, is rich with historic Victorian architecture and has captured the hearts of the young and old. As discovered long ago by high society in Philadelphia and the South, the spa qualities of its sandy shores and waters warmed by the Gulf Stream will refresh your body and soul. Put on your walking shoes for a stroll on the boardwalk or bicycle on tree shaded neighborhood streets. Gas street lamps add a touch of yesterday to the evening. Come have a fall love affair with Cape May.
The Chalfonte Hotel was built in 1876 by the northern Civil War hero Colonel Henry Sawyer. Purchased in 1910 by the Satterfield family of Richmond, Virginia, they are credited with imbuing the hotel with its Southern ambiance. Chalfonte guest rooms are unique in character, featuring classic seashore cottage design. The dining room is famous for southern style home cooking especially their fried chicken.
