Exclusive Pattern: Seashore Serenade
Cape Cod Memories
Seashore Serenade, 22" x 16". #6- and 7-cut wool on linen. Designed and hooked by Norma McElhenny, With Hook in Hand. Plymouth, Massachusetts, 2015.
Where do you begin when designing a rug pattern? There are so many wonderfully talented designers, and so many beautifully designed patterns out there, and I have such a stash of patterns that in one lifetime I will never be able to hook all of them. Many rug hookers find themselves in this position. But then the next rug comes along and you want to hook that one too! “Maybe someday I’ll design my own,” you think. . . .
I designed this pattern with you readers in mind. Since this pattern would be for the summer issue of RHM, it should be something that would remind you of warm summer days, vacations, and all that we love about the season. Immediately I thought of my love of Cape Cod and the many seashore communities. How could I showcase this wonderful corner of the world?
