Oxford Rug Punch is a way for all generations to experience the art of making a rug. Punching a rug is done from the back of the canvas, forming the loops on the front side. The technique is learned quite quickly and you can use a variety of yarns, wools, and even some fabrics.
This simple little snowman with a Christmas tree can be used as a small table mat and can be finished in a short amount of time. All you need is a #14 mini Oxford Punch needle and 3-ply rug yarn in your choice of colors. You may also use worsted weight yarns for rug punch.
Just trace your pattern on monk’s cloth using a light box, a bright window, or red dot tracing fabric. Stretch the backing over a rug hooking gripper frame or place in a sturdy craft hoop. You want the piece to be stretched drum tight while punching as this makes it much easier to punch. Finish off the piece with your favorite binding method. Enjoy!
