"Cheltenham was hooked for my sister Shirley, and it is the largest rug I have done. The geometric nature of the design appealed to me, and it complemented the many pieces of quilting my sister has in her home. I chose to use mostly texture so the rug would not be overpowering and saved the dyed wool for highlights, the veins, and the halo around the major motif. The actual pattern was repeated nine times. I remember I wanted to make this rug my own and tried to do so by incorporating the outline to the oak leaf in the secondary motif, squares and triangles in the off-white background and by using a spot dye in various elements. When I see it in my sister’s house, I can’t believe I hooked it."
