"I made this rug for my niece. I tried making portraits of her children and their pet Labrador retriever. When my sister and I were children, besides each other, one of our major comforts was the unconditional love our dogs gave us, and I don’t know if this is true for these children, but I suspect it is. Why they are dressed as they are I don’t know. I was going through an Early American period I guess with a little Rousseau for the border."
