"Backstage, my first hooking, is based on a pastel I drew when my younger daughter appeared in The Royal Danish Ballet’s production of Napoli. I had no idea what I was doing, so this first piece is hooked simply, more like a coloring book page than a shaded wool painting. Because I was new to hooking, the girls’ braids were drawn with wool the way I drew on paper. I still love this first piece for its simplicity, for the memories it holds, and for the fact that as it came to life in my hands I fell in love with rug hooking."
