Jan Winter has been interested in Pennsylvania Dutch arts in general and frakturs in particular for a number of years. When she decided to design Berks County, Jan opted to break from tradition--but just a little. The elements are still true to the traditional fraktur designs; however, the colors are wildly different. "Frakturs traditionally used red, blue, yellow, and black on parchment paper," she said. "I chose a dusty pink background with some mottling for interest and neutral colors for leaves."
