"Silver Compote started as a gilt frame looking for a picture. I, at times, picked up interesting frames at antique shops for some future project. The frame sat in my studio for many years. I was arranging some items on my shelves and came across a couple of old patterns a former student had left me. I unfolded Silver Compote, turned, and looked at the frame: a perfect study and the exact size! Silver compote immediately became 'brass' compote, and I was off and running. For a workshop, Nancy Blood planned the colors, using different colors of wool dyed with the same formula, making a beautiful blending of values. The most difficult part was hooking the table edge that was disappearing into the background. A few buttonholed lighter pieces of background and a bit darker strip of table did the trick. Silver Compote was a People’s Choice first and made the cover of RHM."
