Hooked Plushie Mummy
Dear Beginning Rug Hooker
Hooked Plushie Mummy, 6" x 9", #6-cut wool on linen. Designed and hooked by Kim Dubay, North Yarmouth, Maine, 2012.
Have you seen the line of monster dolls made with brightly colored fleece, large eyes, and oddly shaped bodies? These appealing creatures are in toy stores, gift shops, and even the airport. I must confess here that I own one—OK, four—of them. I got to thinking about making some of my own, but mine would be hooked, of course!
I call this doll Hooked Plushie, and he is the second in my series. I had been selling this design for about a year when two customers commented that the pattern looked like a mummy. I immediately thought, “Why not hook a mummy to give customers a choice?” It could be hooked in cheerful, everyday colors or in muted grays to look like the moldy, dusty bandages of a mummy for Halloween.
