Grandma Howell's Porch

When our children were little, they spent many happy hours at Grandma Howell's, roaming the farm and rocking back and forth in the old porch swing. Grandma is gone now, our children are grown, and we don't see the old place much any more, but to preserve this nostalgic vignette for our children and our children's children, a hand-hooked rug seemed the perfect medium.

Hooking the stucco was fun. I used scraps of a rather heavy gray and cream houndstooth check, cut into strips, the lighter colors for the stucco and the darker ones for the shadows.
