"Having just finished hooking three monochromatic still lifes in subdued colors, I felt a desperate need to hook a high contrast piece in my favored bright color palette. The monochromatics were interesting studies, but I wanted to hook a simple, bright still life before going on to a new challenge. This piece, Peaches and Pewter, my fourteenth still life, fit the bill exactly. I love depicting shiny surfaces, especially metallic ones. I spotted the pewter pitcher on my friend’s window sill and borrowed it for a photo shoot, finishing my set-up with two peaches from the grocery store and a turquoise tie-dyed scarf."
