"This rug is based on a sketch of myself that I did in August of 1976. It was the summer before I started at the Ontario College of Art. I must have thought that I needed practice drawing. It amazes me that I had the time to sit and study my reflection in the tea kettle. I was in my grandmother’s kitchen at Oak Point, New Brunswick. Her kitchen was an old-fashioned one with a wood stove and a collapsible wooden rack above the stove for drying the tea towels and dish clothes. I hooked this rug forty-two years after I had made the drawing, so I couldn’t quite remember some of things on the table."
