A Rug Hooking Exclusive: Merry Xmas

Merry Christmas to us all! One of my 2020 COVID-19 projects was this Merry Xmas pattern. I wanted to hook a simple pattern with letters that had a Christmas theme, so I chose a snowman. I spent about 4 weeks working on it, enjoying the process of taking an idea from start to finish.

Hook this in either fine cut or wide cut; my preference is a #5 cut. The sky was originally planned as a van Gogh-style night sky with yellow spots and swirls for the stars, but it got complicated as I tried to plan out how to separate the dark black hat and brown arms from the dark sky. One day as I was hooking the snowman, I looked out the window and watched as the sky got dull and gray, and it started to snow. That is when I decided a blue-gray sky would be the solution and that color choice worked well.
