"Russian Birch was created as a commission piece. While my client did state that she liked the birch tree paintings of Gustav Klimt, I associated birch trees with my many visits to Russia. Although I did draw perspective grid pattern lines, as well as the 3 big trees, everything else was blank. I had a blank canvas, making up the design as I hooked. To enhance the sense of perspective, I used cut sizes 2 to 10. The bigger cuts were used in the foreground, and then, cuts decreased in size as the design elements moved away from the viewer."
